In an interview with GQ, January Jones, Betty Draper on Mad Men, says that her first boyfriend when she moved to L.A. wasn’t very supportive of her acting. In fact, he was kind of an asshole about it.
“The guy I was dating when I first got to L.A. was not supportive of my acting,” she says. “He was like, I don’t think you’re going to be good at this. So—fuck you! He only has nice things to say now—if anything, I should thank him. Because the minute you tell me I can’t do something, that’s when I’m most motivated.”
Mistake number one: doing what that skeptical boyfriend (as it turns out, a guy named Ashton Kutcher) did and doubt January Jones. Because she will be so pleased—resolutely, ruthlessly, perhaps a tad too gleefully—to prove your ass wrong.
When Ashton Kutcher, the guy from Dude, Where’s My Car? and Cheaper By the Dozen, tells you you suck at acting, it must be gut wrenching. Until you remember that guy wouldn’t know acting if it shoved its fist down his throat. Then all you can do is laugh. It’s also wonderfully ironic that now Ashton Kutcher is known as Mr. Demi Moore and January Jones is on an Emmy Award winning show. The only award Ashton has a chance at winning is if he competed against Jon Gosselin, Joe Francis and Joel Madden for a Douchebag of the Year Award. And even then, Jon would be slightly edging him out.
