Terribly shocking news everyone. Jail is depressing. Roman Polanski is finding this out now. Having been arrested in Switzerland and now facing extradition for raping a 13-year-old girl (but not rape-raping), Polanski has been under lock and key and denied bail because they consider him a flight risk. A reasonable assumption since he fled the US on the night of his sentencing 32 years ago. His lawyer said,
“I found him to be tired and depressed,” Herve Temime told the Sonntag newspaper, one of two newspapers he talked to after visiting the Oscar-winning director in a Zurich prison.
“Roman Polanski, who is 76, seemed very dejected when I visited him,” Temime told another newspaper, NZZ am Sonntag.
“Polanski was in an unsettled state of mind.”
I always thought jail was a magical place like Disneyland or Sea World. Free room and board with a gym and lots of company? It sounded more like a fancy retirement home than a detention center. Turns out Roman and I are just finding out that the brochures were misleading.
