No one comes out “for publicity.” Telling anyone, whether it is your family or a national T.V. audience, is a difficult and vulnerable act. Meredith Baxter Birney did it with a lot of grace and dignity. It is news because she is correct when she states that coming out is a political action in today’s society. It will cease to be news when Gay and Lesbian individuals have all of the same rights as everyone else and is no longer called a “purv” (which by the way you spelled incorrectly) or people stop making comments about getting a toaster oven.

I do not see why she felt the need to go on live TV and announce that she Gay. Who cares at least most of us do not. Of all the things going on in the world. that news is not of any interest at all.

Let her come out of the closet the world will see. She is trying to promote more business.

@writergabriel … Yes, it’s TOTALLY just about attention getting. She’s a mother of 5 & has been married 3 times. Now all of a sudden at 62 the clouds have parted & she has this revelation that she is a dyke!?!? This is a sad & confused woman.

Besides attention whoring, I see no conceivable reason for her to get on TV & announce to the world the she’s a carpet munching purv.

At her age this is obviously nothing more then a cheap & lame publicity stunt at trying to rekindle a career that has been all but dead for years & years! If you’re gay, fine- be gay, whatever, but really NOBODY gives 2 craps about the sexual proclivities of a dried up old prune~
