Halle Berry Believes in the One-Drop Rule
A recent rumor popped up that Gabriel Aubry is insistent on people not calling his baby black, but white. People took this to mean he was a racist but maybe he just thinks his baby is mixed.
Whatever the case. Halle Bery feels differently. In an upcoming interview for EBONY magazine, Halle says her baby is black because of the one-drop rule. “I feel she’s Black. I’m Black and I’m her mother and I believe in the one-drop theory.” TMZ explains the one-drop rule was used during segregation to describe anyone who wasn’t 100% Caucasian.
Technically Halle Berry is only half-black. But if we were to follow the one-drop rule, you could apply it to everyone and because of evolution we’d be whatever color we started out as. Unless there’s a percentage rule to the one-drop theory. Like, if you’re less than 25% black, you’re not really black. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t ever go up to the black kids at your school and tell them evolution means you’re black too and that makes you — in a baritone voice — “down with the brothas” because they’re going to laugh at you and might even kick your ass.

The “one-drop” theory goes way farther back than just from more recent segregation, but was a common issue in the south US during the infectiuous blemish of the “slavery years” , where there were many slaves that looked completely white, but were still held as slaves because they were known to be the descendants of African ancestors. Correction: The one-drop rule was codified into law by US Supreme Court Justices in the Pelessy v Ferguson case. The truth is (which will never be know because whites are in constant denial of history) we are ALL part black. The oldest known civilizations of the world originated in Africa. The origin of mitochondrial DNA was traced back to a black woman. You can mate two black people and get a light-skinned person but you can’t mate two white people and get a dark sinned person. This is simple reality that white people vehemently deny.

The concept of race is different in the U.S. from from the rest of the world. The U.S. was the only country in the world that had the “one drop of blood rule”. Even South Africa in the times of apartheid did not have that rule. That rule says that if one of your ancestors up to the fourth or fifth generation were of black african ancestry you are black.
