Dakota Fanning Graduated

By on June 7, 2011

It seemed like just yesterday Dakota Fanning was annoying us to no end with her precocious little girl act in films like War of the Worlds and Man on Fire. Now she’s almost legal, co-starring in the Twilight franchise and graduating high school.

On Monday, Dakota was at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA for the ceremony honoring Campbell Hall’s Class of 2011. Despite pursuing a film career, Fanning successfully lived out high school stereotypes by becoming a cheerleader and winning Homecoming queen two years in a row. Rumor has it she’ll be attending NYU in the fall. Rumor also has it that her high school life was boring as hell. No rumors of free bj’s in the boys locker room? Paris Hilton would be so disappointed.

“…was annoying us to no end with her precocious little girl act in films like War of the Worlds and Man on Fire.”

Don’t include me in the “us.” By the time of Man On Fire, Dakota’s acting had become quite sophisicated. The closeup scenes in War of the Worlds were gems, and that includes the scene, shown above, in the escape car. The problem with this screen cap is that it’s taken at the wrong time: the cap should have been taken at the peak of intensity where she had the mitten over her mouth–priceless. When I see this, I think of what Michael Caine had to say, in his book on acting, about the realism of suppressing emotion. Anyway, I found her precociousness delightful–both on the screen and in real life; I’ve never seen anything like it.
