Mary J. Blige Jumps on Her Bandwagon

Mary J. Blige has responded to the criticism directed at her fried chicken Burger King ad which was pulled yesterday. A lot of people did the “that’s racist” chant when it went up. Blige said the ad spot was not what she expected and that she never signed off on the version that hit the net.

Mary told TMZ, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.” Adding, “I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out.”

Burger King admitted the ad was released “before all the licensing and final approvals were obtained” which is code for “We’re figuring out how to make this seem less racist. Maybe if we have her promoting something healthy alongside the fried chicken. Like watermelon, perhaps.”

In case you missed it, the video under the cut.
