Steven Tyler was a judge for American Idol before he was kicked off and replaced with Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. He seems a little bitter about that. Steven gave MTV News his assessment of American Idol, which hasn’t even aired yet, saying Nicki and Mariah should put aside their differences for the sake of contestants.
“I know that they’ve got something going on on the judges’ panel, [and] it shouldn’t be that, it should be just the opposite: They should have something going on, which is called ‘camaraderie.'”
He went on to say that Nicki couldn’t recognize talent and would have sent Bob Dylan to the cornfield if he was auditioning. Oh, but not him and his band of judges though.
“These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death; you’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”
Naturally, Nicki responded.
Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!
But then she pulled the race card and went in hard.
- I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment
- You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f**k yourself and worry about yourself babe
- LOL lets make him a shirt that says “No Coloreds Allowed” then escort him down 2 Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened w/guns
- When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.
Well, that’s the end of that conversation. There’s nothing much you can do after the race card is pulled except have your publicist issue a clarification and half-assed apology if anyone was offended. Of course, I don’t think Tyler was being racist and don’t get how Nicki even got there. Maybe it was the cornfield comment but that’s more tying it up to those kids coming from the “Midwest somewhere.” This is like going up to someone who’s wronged you and saying, “It’s because I’m black, isn’t it?” Which is what I like to do and, when they tell me I’m not black, I act all surprised.
Wrong time to pull out the race card. Nikki sounds like an idiot. But then this is a BLACK woman painting herself up and ends up looking WHITE.
Remind me again how this is racist? Tyler is critiquing a ability to judge talent, a personality trait, nothing whatsoever in regards to race. Would Nicki Minaj have the slightest glimmer as to who Bob Dylan is? Probably not.
How dha fukk yhu blame nicki, that was fucking racist.
