The good thing about using drugs to chemically alter your brain, sometimes permanently, is there’s always a chance the voices in your head push you to lead a healthier life style. Sort of like what happened to Steve-O. Talking to RollingStone.com, Steve-O explained how the voices in his head turned him into a better person.
“I was doing so many drugs that I literally started hearing voices. I considered the voices my spirit friends, and they were telling me to kill myself. Some of them were nasty characters, but other ones told me they were worried about me… One of them told me I was going to have to answer for s**t.”
I’m guessing this wasn’t so much a voice as it was his subconscious guilt. But let’s stick to voices anyway. It sounds cooler.
“One time I did something particularly nasty – I tried to really hurt someone’s feelings with a text message. I heard a voice in my right ear say, ‘You’re going to have to answer for that’. Later I came across a YouTube video where this Krishna consciousness guy in India was talking about how it’s difficult for Westerners to be saved because there’s such little respect for life on the planet. “
Hurt someone feelings with a text message? What is this, high school?
“This guy said, ‘How can you expect to be saved if you eat meat?’ I put that together with the voices I was hearing and I became afraid of having some kind of spiritual punishment.”
“Hey, did you turn vegan because you wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle now that your body can’t take as much punishment as when you were young?” No, I’m just afraid that if I don’t, I’ll be punished either by a non-existent deity or this ridiculous notion of karma which doesn’t make much sense if u think about it.
