Tug-of-War Severs Student Fingers

A game of tug-of-war turned deadly yesterday when two South El Monte high school students severed their fingers while participating in the Spirit Week activity celebrating homecoming. No information on how many digits the one girl, a senior and varsity soccer player, and one boy, a football player, lost but they were taken to USC Medical center to try to get the fingers re-attached.

It’s unclear how exactly a game of tug-of-war can sever fingers. Were they playing with piano wire or something?
