Matt Damon and Michael Douglas star in Behind the Candelabra, the Steven Soderbergh directed HBO movie about Liberace’s gay romance with Scott Thorson. Douglas plays Liberace and Damon plays Thorson. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the movie, Damon described his sex scenes with Michael Douglas. Simply put, they were awkward.
“The scene where I’m behind him and going at him, we did that in one take,” recalls Damon, laughing. “We do it. Cut. There’s a long pause. And then you just hear Steven go, ‘Well… I have no notes.'”
In fairness, there’s only so many different ways you can rail another man from behind. Anyway, a good way to avoid the awkwardness is to remember that it’s only gay if you make eye contact.
