Raeden Greer Talks ‘The Host’

Raeden Greer plays Lily in The Host alongside the talented Saoirse Ronan. It’s the next big franchise based on one of Stephenie Meyer’s books. Yea, the same person who wrote Twilight. If you don’t know what it’s about, IMDB says, “When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.”

The movie opens this Friday and Raeden was nice enough to talk a little bit about it.

Would love to talk to you about The Host. I’m sure there’s a cool story as to how you got the role of Lily.

Well, I initially auditioned for a different role. I went in to audition for the director and I really had no idea that these characters were living in a cave. I had done some quick reading online as to the premise of the story, but I didn’t exactly pick up on the nature of their living situation. So, I was a little dressed up, wearing a bit of makeup, and I read for this other role. A few weeks later, I got the call that I was being offered Lily and I thought it might have been a mistake. I asked my agent to make sure it wasn’t. It’s funny looking back on that audition because on the cave set, we were covered in dirt every day.

There’s a lot of our viewers that are fans of Saoirse. How was it working with her on this film?

She just brings a great energy to set. She’s energetic and personable and fun to be around. Then, when she’s in front of the camera, she hits every facet of her performance with precision and ability beyond her years.

In regards to The Host what do you think will be the outcome of the movie? Do you think teens will embrace it like they did Twilight or the Hunger Games?

Well, I certainly hope the film is embraced. I don’t think anyone expects it to be a phenomenon of the magnitude that Twilight was, but The Host is an entirely different story that I think would be successful as a film even if it didn’t have the leverage of also being a novel written by Stephenie.

Who do you think the heartthrobs of The Host are?

There is definitely more than one heart throb in The Host. All the guys in the film are incredibly charming and likeable in real life. I’ve had some “Team Ian or Team Jared” questions from fans already and I don’t really have an answer. All the guys in the film are wonderful.

Can you talk a little about your role as Lily and what her character is like?

Lily is one of the last humans in the resistance. She lives in the caves with the others and her boyfriend, Wes. Lily is quite a bit more developed in Stephenie’s novel than she is in the film. She experiences incredible tragedy and goes through a process of mourning and coming to terms with the fragility of life in this world dominated by aliens. I hope Lily returns for the sequel and gets to tell a bit more of her story.

So, social media has really helped engage fans. Are you active on your social media?

Yes, I love Twitter. I have really sweet fans from all over the world and Twitter is a really great way to be in touch with them.

Is there going to be a big red carpet premiere for The Host? If so, do you know what you will wear, who you’re bringing, etc?

I missed the L.A. premiere because I was working, but I’ll be at the New York premiere. I won’t know what I’m wearing until the day before, and I’m going solo. A girl doesn’t always need a date.

Thanks to Raeden for taking the time to answer a few questions. Check out her Twitter and The Host which opens this week.
