Italy Doesn’t Care About Black People

12 Years a Slave has topped critics’ best of lists this year earning rave reviews from basically everyone. Who wouldn’t be awed by the performance of Chiwetel Ejiofor. Probably Italians who’ve heard of Chiwetel Ejiofor much less know how to pronounce his name.

That’s probably why theaters in Italy are advertising the movie with posters featuring blown up headshots of Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender. Pitt is only in the film for about 5 minutes while Fassbender plays a somewhat major role. However, Ejiofor, arguably the main character, gets barely any poster time.

Looking at these posters you’d think you were going in to watch 12 Years Legends of the Fall. I imagine all the Italians looking at this poster are scratching their heads wondering why there’s a black dude running through it and why he’s not holding a football.
