Edgar Wright Regrets Ever Signing on to ‘Ant-Man’

By now you’ve heard that Edgar Wright is off Ant-Man due to “creative differences.” Marvel wanted substantial script rewrites and Wright felt it ruined his vision. Now all the hype Wright’s name brought to the film has come to a grinding halt.

“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

Edgar Wright then tweeted and quickly deleted this photo of Buster Keaton holding a Cornetto in a post titled “Selfie.”

The image could be directed at Marvel. In 1928, Keaton joined MGM and later once said, “I made the worst mistake of my career.” One would assume Wright feels the same way considering he’s been attached to Ant-Man for 8 years. Joss Whedon later responded with a pic of his own.

I wonder what poor, lowly assistant had to go out and find Whedon a Cornetto ice cream cone just so he could solemnly hold it in the air for a picture. He probably didn’t even eat it either. Though that’s probably the least inane thing that assistant has ever done considering the rest of his waking hours are spent responding to fan mail about the inconsistencies at timecode 14:28:19 of Firefly season 1 episode 4.

The “Cornetto” trilogy–Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End–were all directed and co-written by Edgar Wright. I’m a huge fan of the 1st and 3rd. Hot Fuzz, not so much.

Also, hi Mochipants! Odd to find you here away from DotD!
