Tyler Perry Had No Idea Who David Fincher Was or That ‘Gone Girl’ Was a Popular Book

For some reason, Tyler Perry stars in David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl. But he totally wouldn’t have signed on if he knew who David Fincher was or that the film was based on a popular book. So to answer your question, yes, Tyler Perry does live in his insulated bubble of fat suits and cross-dressing.

“I probably would have walked away from it. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work, or if I’d known the book was so popular, I would have said, No,” he admits. “And my agent knew that! He didn’t tell me until after I signed on!”

Tyler Perry, director of such films as Tyler Perry Dressed as a Woman Doing Something With Family and Learning Lessons, didn’t know who David Fincher was? Director of Fight ClubSe7en, The Social Network, and The Game? I’m more impressed than appalled. How insular does one have to be to become so blissfully unaware? He must not turn on the tv, read the internet or go outside. He probably just sits at home giggling at his next Madea script and lighting cigars with $100 bills.

Speaking of Gone Girl, the second trailer premiered during the Emmys last night. It was more of the same.
