Stephen Colbert’s Final Daily Show Speech Makes Jon Stewart Cry

This is the end. My only friend. TV! The Daily Show with Jon Stewart came to an end tonight. Boooo. A bunch of previous correspondents from the show came on, including Steve Carrell and John Oliver. Stephen Colbert also stopped by and went totally off-script to thank Stewart for his service. If Stewart wasn’t sitting next to him, you’d think it was a eulogy.

You said to me and to many other people here years ago, never to thank you because we owe you nothing. It is one of the few times I’ve known you to be dead wrong,” Colbert said. “We owe you, and not just for what you did for our careers … we owe you because we learned from you.”

“You were infuriatingly good at your job, OK? All of us who were lucky enough to work with you for 16 years are better at our jobs because we got to watch you do yours — and we are better people for having known you.”

Good-bye Jon. Hello Trevor! Knowing people these days, they’ll forget about Stewart in less than a year. Right now, people already are saying, “Letterman who??”
