Earlier this month, a Mexican Official with knowledge of the investigation told CNN that cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman fell from a small cliff, injuring his leg and face, as he was chased by special forces.
The movie about this whole thing is gonna be killer.
According to the official, on October 9th El Chapo was spotted by special forces and Mexican Marines near the town of Cosala, in the mountains of Mexico’s Sinaloa state. At the time, he was with a young girl, and for some reason, this made authorities reluctant to make their move. What, like, you can’t aim a gun? You can’t grab a man and not a kid? Don’t they train you for that? Are you even trying?
They waited until they saw him without the child. Then the special forces made their move. They pursued the cartel chief on foot. As they closed in he tumbled off the cliff, his bodyguards met him at the bottom and helped him escape through the woods, and then the cliff exploded behind him as he was carried away in slow motion.
Ok, so maybe only the first 80% of that last paragraph is true. Still cool as hell.
Guzman broke out of a Mexican maximum security prison via underground tunnel in July, and is pretty much known for always escaping authorities every time. While this has more to do with him being a badass, or the Mexican justice system being almost as corrupt as Dick Cheney, is really anyone’s guess. This wasn’t even his first escape. Guzman had his first big break from a maximum security prison in 2001. I heard it got rave reviews.
Officials are saying that now that El Chapo is injured, they’ll be able to knock him while he’s down, but considering they’ve recently spotted him a couple times, including in a goddamn Ferrari, and he’s still chillin’ on the outside, my bet is on him and not amateur hour over there.
