Alicia Vikander Likely to Star in Reboot Reboot: ‘Girl in the Spider’s Web’

Stooooopppppppp trrrryyyyyiiinnnng, Sony.

Since the underwhelming response to David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Sony has been trying to get its sequel The Girl Who Played With Fire off the ground to no avail. So they’ve switched gears a little bit, despite having spent seven figures on a Fire script written by Steven Zaillian. Zaillian has been hired to adapt The Girl in the Spider’s Web now, a novel starring the characters from Stieg Larsson’s hugely popular series, but this one written by David Lagercrantz after Larsson’s death in 2004.

While they’re still planning to release Fire after Spider’s Web, big time fancy people David Fincher and Daniel Craig are unlikely to return and they’ve already started looking for the next Lisbeth Salander since Rooney Mara is probably gonna be too busy raking it in after Carol comes out.

Right now, Alicia Vikander is Sony’s fave. She was in Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and currently appearing with Bradley Cooper in Burnt. Mara was almost totally green when she was cast as Lisbeth and studios love putting nobodies at the head of franchises because you can pay ’em way less, so Vikander seems like the one. It’s too bad she nor Mara was able to be quite as cool as Noomi Rapace the HBIC.
