(Semi) Naked And Afraid: Competition to Be a Victoria’s Secret Model is Fierce

Over 500 girls were put up for consideration to model at the upcoming Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and only 44 were accepted. I’m not gonna do the math, but as somebody whose modeling career begins and ends with bathroom mirror selfies every time I change my hair color, I have roughly the same amount of chance of becoming a Victoria’s Secret Model as these girls who have been busting their balls their whole lives for the opportunity.

That’s wild.

If only we were all as well-connected as Hollywood brat Kendall Jenner or her bestie Gigi Hadid, who were basically handed spots. Other girls literally break down in tears during the initial auditions. Even a 10-year Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Babe, Brazilian model Izabel Goulart, couldn’t help but openly weep as she pleaded with the casting panel to be in the show again. Goulart told the casting panel through her tears,

“Every year it feels like it’s the very, very first show and one thing that I do all year long is really try to…to work as hard as I can so I can deserve to be here, to be a part of the moment that only happens at the show, at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”

And if you think there’s no use about crying over spilled milk or stomping around in frilly panties, I kind of feel you, but you have to think about these models. This is the stomping, and these are the frilly panties, that can make an entire career. It’s the difference between them being able to pursue their dreams (you wanna be on top?) and ending up bagging jars of Vaseline for a very slippery man in a backwater Wal-Mart.

“Hardly any of them will make it.”

Ed Razek, executive producer of the show said. It’s hard out there for a model.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will take place in New York on Tuesday, November 10, but will not air until December 8 at 10pm. I for one, am excited. I can’t wait to see these tit eyelashes go for a walk.

It’s hard out there for a model so now we know with certitude how Kendall and Gigi got the gig: It’s who they know.
But isn’t that the way in the fashion and model industries?
