One 14-year-girl was just given a tiny nugget of solace on her path to recovering from over a year of sexual abuse from her own father. A man who posed as her boyfriend to solicit nude photos of her.
The girl, who had begun a relationship with someone she thought to be her own age, despite having never met him, had been coerced into sharing nude photos. According to Syracuse.com, the father had been thorough in his enticement starting in 2013:
The man set up accounts with Instagram, AOL and a texting service in September 2013 under a fake name and started chatting online with his daughter, pretending to be a 16-year-old boy from Watertown.
She had resisted his requests for photos for quite some time, but eventually caved both under threat and coercion. The girl later tried to break off the relationship, but was met with threatening text messages:
I tell u what u want to be gone then send me nudes and close ups and I will let u go.
I need a fucking showering. Standing up for herself:
I’m not going to do that. That’s another reason I’m leaving. All you talk about is sex sex and more sex. Honestly that is not what a relationship is about.
Instead of balking at the display of confidence from the young girl, her own father resorted to blackmail:
Then I will send these to your dad and then I won’t have to worry about anyone else having u.
And then the whole world came crashing down for this girl. The father took his affinity for the masquerade even further. He pretended to be the mother of the fake boyfriend. As the mother, he sent his daughter a message claiming that the boy had killed himself, opening up the door to a year-long physical and sexual abuse of his own daughter.
But our brave girl told her school nurse that her father had been abusing her. Only then was she granted reprieve from her tortuous existence with this man. As per Syracuse.com:
The 41-year-old man pleaded guilty in federal court today to 12 counts of enticing a child to produce child pornography and receiving and sending child porn. He’s facing sexual abuse charges in Herkimer County Court.
And… sometimes the justice system works, if only a year too late.
