All These Nerds Are Naming Their Babies After ‘Star Wars’ Characters

With the surging popularity of Star Wars in the pop culture scene thanks to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it makes sense that 2016 is the year of babies named after its characters. Leia jumped almost a hundred places in popularity between 2015 and 2016. Rey has had a huge jump, placing at #14,172 in 2015 and #2,784 in 2016. And we’re not even halfway through 2016 yet.

While Rey is a cute name for a girl, some of these names are basically normal, and some are just totally not cute.

Liam is holding strong at #1 for both years. People are even naming their babies Jedi. I would steal the s**t out of these poor kids’ lunch money. Kylo has placed at #1,165. Why you would name your kid after unstable villains is beyond me, but I guess I’m not a fucking nerd.

Some of these names work, and some are just bad. Like naming your kid after the fascist and genocidal Anakin Skywalker? Why? Anakin even made headlines in 2015 due to its surge in popularity.

These parents are wacky and are gonna raise some wacky ass kids.
