Google’s 2016 April Fool’s Gmail Joke Is Getting People Fired

April Fool’s motherfuckers!

Google decided that it would be hilarious if for one day only, users could use the new ‘Send + Mic Drop’ button and send somebody a GIF of a minion dropping the mic in e-mails.

Google didn’t stop there. Unfortunately, they decided that it would be great if the e-mails of whoever you just mic dropped stop appearing in your inbox with the regular notifications. They also put the prank button right next to the regular send button, and really got into the April Fool’s spirit by fucking everyone’s day up.

People on Google’s Product forum are complaining of everything from angering their bosses and clients to losing jobs entirely. Some even asked for compensation and wrote things like:

“Do you f****** think that when it’s April 1st my email is something I f*** around with?”

Google initially planned to keep the joke going all day and even expand it to mobile, but took it down after the incredible backlash they created by destroying hundreds of professional relationships.

Google said in a statement:

“Well, it looks like we pranked ourselves this year. Due to a bug, the Mic Drop feature inadvertently caused more headaches than laughs. We’re truly sorry. The feature has been turned off. If you are still seeing it, please reload your Gmail page.”
