RIP Doris Roberts, Star of ‘Everyone Loves Raymond’

Doris Roberts, better known as the mom on Everybody Loves Raymond, passed away on Sunday at the age of 90.

No one knows why yet, but TMZ initially reported it and Doris Roberts’ former Raymond co-star Patricia Heaton confirmed the news on Twitter. She died in LA. CBS also confirmed the news.

So we’re super sure she’s dead, unfortunately.

Roberts was nominated for 11 Emmys, including seven for playing Marie Barone on Raymond. She won five Emmys overall.

She spoke fondly of Marie Barone when she talked about crafting her character. She told the Jewish Virtual Library before her death:

“This woman could be a harridan. She really is more than meddlesome. Everything I do, I do it because I want (the other characters) to make a better life, a better home. It all comes from love. That’s why I’m very pleased and excited that I have that much of a contribution for that character that makes everyone laugh, because if you laugh at me, you can laugh at your own parents.”

RIP Doris Roberts.
