Kesha is caught in purgatory. She can’t record or make living off her music until her lawsuit against Dr. Luke gets settled. She’s signed to his label and can’t get out. Sony, the parent company for Dr. Luke’s label, threw her a lifeline. There’s a catch though.
According to Kesha’s Instagram, if Kesha takes back her rape allegations, they’ll free her from her contract.
Her Instagram read:
so. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.
Let that sink in for a second.
Is this not blackmail?
If she doesn’t take it back, Kesha is doomed. She’ll make nothing off music while Sony drags this out. Sony has all the high priced lawyers to keep bleeding Kesha until she has nothing left.
Dr. Luke’s spokesperson issued a statement:
“The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That’s because all the evidence – including Kesha’s own videotaped sworn testimony – show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this ‘incident’ supposedly happened. Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones. We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.”
Why can’t Kesha record as a symbol much like Prince did years ago? Or better yet, why can’t Kesha record music under an assumed name and perform as a hologram? She’d get out from her contract AND be hailed as a visionary. Plus, it’s really hard to rape holograms.
This is beyond disgusting take her story back how about just let her out of contract hasn’t she been through enough already
