Captain America Is Basically a Nazi And It’s Been Coming For A Long Time

Captain America is kinda evil. Why is this a surprise to any of you? He’s superhumanly gorgeous and way too patriotic… these are the core warning signs of evil personalities. So yeah, I guess you could say I’ve known the whole time. Marvel exec, Tom Brevoort, says the clues have been around for some time so… haha you’re all fucking dumb and my paranoia is justified once a-fucking-gain.

It’s about to get real nerdy here so bear with me. We’re diving into the comics. The idea of a more controversial Captain America persona is a Marvel cinematic universe invention but it’s not out of nowhere, Brevoort acknowledges:

Issue 2 kind of winds the clock back a little bit and lays out exactly how and why things are the way they are. And it lays out a roadmap for where things are headed in the future. At this point, I don’t want to say too much definitively because I want people to read the comic books. But people will be able to connect the dots and follow the trail of breadcrumbs.

And it’s not something that they just dreamt up one day either. This has been in the works since Captain America writing really started. And the message is poignant as hell. Welcome to the paranoid train, people.

It means on the most fundamental level that the most trusted hero in the Marvel universe is now secretly a deep-cover Hydra operative, a fact that’s really only known to the readers and to him. That makes every interaction he has with anyone take on a second layer, a second meaning.

Hahahahahahah every thing is fucked up, even in fiction. Brevoort also reminds us that the world is terrifying:

There should be a feeling of horror or unsettledness at the idea that somebody like this can secretly be part of this organization. There are perfectly normal people in the world who you would interact with on a professional level or personal level, and they seem like the salt of the earth but then it turns out they have some horrible secret — whether it’s that they don’t like a certain group of people or have bodies buried in their basement.

Patriotism has always been suspect. Who loves a flag that much. Red white and blue aren’t even pretty colors next to each other.
