Larry David Says White People Love ‘Hamilton’ Just to ‘Be Hip’

Leave it to a white guy to downgrade the success of POC with some bullshit social justice theory. Larry David, via his guest appearance on the Mike Lupica Show, believes that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton has sold its many tickets to quell white guilt. Yeah, it’s not the excellent writing at all. Larry David has a theory, no one asked for it, but he has one.

No doubt about it, it’s an incredible show, but I do have this theory on a lot of the people that are seeing it.

He prefaces trying not to dismiss the show, but detracts by eventually sharing his opinion:

They just want to solidify their liberal bona fides and how cool they are: ‘Yea, I love Hamilton. Yea I get it, I’m hip.’

Hahahahaha people without foresight can’t even get in to see the show. Its popularity in the mainstream is relatively new, yet still every one of its shows are sold out and scalped tickets cost thousands of dollars. You have to be a true hipster to get into this. You really had to like it before it was cool.

David then went on to elaborate a little bit more, even though no one asked him to:

But I have a feeling there are a lot of white people who are saying they are completely blown away even though they didn’t really understand half of the things the people on stage were saying.

Translation: Hamilton‘s success is taking attention off the white man! This is all affirmative action! I feel oppressed now! Regardless, whatever Miranda is doing… it’s working. He and his cast have already won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, it’s up for 16 Tony Awards and has sold $35 million in tickets, breaking Broadway records across the board.
