James Wan Is Ready to Make ‘Aquaman’ the Most Interesting DC Movie Yet

With Marvel and Disney churning out PR for a new movie every fucking day, it’s been getting a little dry. Sometimes you have to throw in some Nazi tropes. But sometimes you just have to make your characters more interesting. James Wan, who has been working on Aquaman despite the flood of rumors and drama surrounding the film, has done just that.

While doing some press for his upcoming The Conjuring 2, he took some time to generate more press for Aquaman:

I gotta say, one thing I love about the Aquaman world is all the really different, really interesting characters. They are interesting characters, including the villains – I’m not going to tell you which villains I’m going to play with! [laughs] But they’re super cool. They’re very larger than life, but they’re unique.

Aquaman also exists within a universe (within DC) that we haven’t had that much of a look at this go around. Our lack of understanding for this particular universe warrants a lot more free form expression. In other words, this is the medium necessary to make the characterization of the DC universe more robust.

That’s what I’ll speak to – the uniqueness of the Aquaman world. There are so many superhero movies now; I don’t want to make a superhero movie now for the sake of doing it, but there’s something unique to the world of Aquaman. There’s a reason why they’ve never made a movie about this until now, because technology has never allowed us to tackle something this complicated. And so because of that it feels like something different, and that uniqueness is what I’m excited about.

And once again, I’m excited to see what can happen here. Just gotta get to 2018.

[Update: 1:48 PM Thanks to a reader for pointing out Aquaman is a DC property, not Marvel. Also not Marvel properties: Cyborg, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad]

Wow. I’m not sure if this is an attempt to troll people or the author is a clueless imbacile who didn’t do their homework. Aquaman is a DC Comics property, not a Marvel one as the author states more than once in the article. Does the Blemish not have an editor? Fucking terrible.
