8-Minute Cartoon Food Orgy Scene in ‘Sausage Party’ Wasn’t Too Much for the MPAA, but One Hairy Pita Bread Ballsack Was

Seth Rogen set out to make an R-rated comedy about cartoon food, but according to the MPAA, he went too far in a weirdly specific way. He was told it was gonna be slapped with an NC-17 rating if he didn’t cut out some stuff, as he told Howard Stern.

“We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, ‘OK, these are like our sacrificial lambs,'” Seth said.

It turns out the MPAA had some very specific s**t they wanted out, but it wasn’t as much as anybody expected. While you might think an 8-minute cartoon food orgy might be enough to piss off the MPAA, it turns out they were totally cool with it except for one weird detail.

“We digitally shaved the pita bread’s ballsack,” Seth told Howard.

Yes, that was all the MPAA wanted for Sausage Party to score an R rating. They just had to give the pita bread’s balls a haircut. So an 8-minute orgy is R-rated, but body hair (on pita bread) crosses the line into NC-17 land? I don’t understand.

What the f**k is happening in film? I can’t believe I wrote this sentence. I can’t believe I had to read that other one. I don’t even know what to say. Who the f**k is the MPAA? Why do they even get to make arbitrary calls like this?

I’m out. Have a good one.
