Kristen Stewart Is a Lot Smarter Than You Thought, Co-Authored a Paper About Artificial Intelligence

Kristen Stewart just co-authored a paper about artificial intelligence. No, not because she’s a robot herself.

In her directorial debut Come Swim, she used a machine learning technique called “style transfer.” The technique creates an impressionistic style and Stewart and her special effects engineers wrote a paper about it.

Her paper entitled “Bringing Impressionism to Life with Neural Style Transfer in Come Swim” is apparently pretty impressive, especially coming from an actress who spent years playing a monotone teen in love with a vampire.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand any of what they’re talking about. It kind of seems like they’re just putting a painting filter on a photo. But I don’t know s**t about AI or filmmaking, so check out this Quartz article if you’d like more details.

It’s cool that Kristen Stewart is branching out and showing the world that she’s more than just the unhappiest looking movie star.

I had two papers that got publushed in undergrad. My professor’s name went on both because he was my guided study facilitator. His name went on my paper, but I did all the work and he didn’t do s**t.

If she did *any* research, actual writing, funding, or the most marginal clinical work outside of only knowing what an academic paper is, I’ll eat this computer.
