Lorde Apologizes, Taylor Swift is NOT an Autoimmune Disease

Ah Lorde, the scandal-plagued young pop-star who- wait. What was that? You say that Lorde lives a scandal-free life?

So who was I thinking of? Every other pop star ever? Lorde is sort of perfect, I guess. I mean, she’s younger than me and far more successful, so that makes me hate her at least a little bit, but she seems nice and really cool. So why is she apologizing on Twitter?

Well it’s because of this statement:

“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”

What does that mean? Who is she even talking about? For some reason, everyone decided that it was Taylor Swift, but it seems like she actually meant being friends with celebrities in general. I guess people think that they are better friends than they appear to be.

Well the internet being the internet, one thing led to another, and Lorde was deemed insensitive. I think the chain of thought was that autoimmune diseases are awful, and AIDS is a famous example of an autoimmune disease, and stereotypes associate AIDS with being gay, therefore Lorde is saying that being friends with Taylor swift is like having AIDS and thus Lorde is homophobic. I think? I don’t really follow the logic either, but Lorde is a chill, humble millennial, so she tweeted a sincere sounding apology and moved on.

The rose emoji is a nice touch.
