A 12-Year-Old Bryan Cranston Had a Run-In With Charles Manson

Now that Charles Manson has died, it seems no one has anything good to say about him. I mean, what did he really do? Kill Sharon Tate? Natalie Wood was a much better actress than Sharon Tate and everyone still loves Christopher Walken.

Bryan Cranston had a much more interesting story about Manson than most, however, as he had a run-in with Manson as a child.

Cranston’s tweet read:

Hearing Charles Manson is dead, I shuddered. I was within his grasp just one year before he committed brutal murder in 1969. Luck was with me when a cousin and I went horseback riding at the Span Ranch, and saw the little man with crazy eyes whom the other hippies called Charlie.

His tweet about Manson’s death seems a little over-dramatic seeing as how Cranston never actually even spoke to Manson, he just rode a horse near him. He detailed his encounter during an interview at the Hudson Union Society last year.

Cranston and a cousin went for a horseback ride at the Spahn Movie Ranch, where Manson and his “family” lived, a year or so before the Sharon Tate murder, and a dozen hippies went storming off when one guy yelled “Charlie’s on the hill!”

A half an hour later, Cranston and his cousin rode past a group of people, one of whom they deduced was Charlie, because of his wide eyes, wild hair and generally crazy demeanor. Watch the video, Bryan Cranston does an impression of Manson that’s pretty funny.

I wonder if, when Cranston dies, anyone will have any crazy stories to tell about a run-in with him when they were children.
