Is Disney Really Thinking of Firing ‘The Mandalorian’ Actress Gina Carano?

Gina Carano is an idiot. She has some pretty messed up views about a lot of things like trans people and COVID and I basically don’t agree with her about anything. Luckily, though, I don’t watch The Mandalorian based on the political views of the cast; I watch it because it makes me feel the same way I felt as a kid watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which also featured an idiot with views I disagree with.

That said, there are rumors that Disney is taking outrage against Carano on the internet seriously and is thinking of firing her, which seems to me like a really bad idea. We Got This Covered quotes a Disney insider who says Disney is considering killing the character off or recasting the role for season 3.

It was not that long ago when Disney, at least in part afraid of angry parents refusing to take their kids to Disney theme parks, canceled Ellen after star Ellen DeGeneres and her TV alter ego Ellen Morgan came out as a lesbian. Back then we didn’t call people getting all lathered up about TV shows and demanding only people and shows they like be allowed on it “cancel culture,” we called it “Southern Baptists.”

This is not to say I think Carano’s character should be untouchable, I just think we should leave the creative decisions to the creative people. Carano’s Cara Dune isn’t even a major character on The Mandalorian, she’s just a recurring guest. It really wouldn’t affect the show at all if she was never on again, but the decision should be made based on the needs of the show, not the angry online mobs.

preganant and lactating ‘people’!? We can’t call them women anymore? Only when citing a previous study does the word woman show up. Otherwise they’re just people.
