Brett Ratner may have apologized for saying “rehearsal’s for f*gs” and Academy president Tom Sherak may have accepted his apology but it seems none of that was enough because Ratner has now resigned from producing the Oscar telecast.

The Academy had no comment on post-Ratner plans. Ratner’s Tuesday announcement was the result of industry pressure. Following three days of outrage about his use of a gay slur at a Friday Q&A for “Tower Heist” and his raunchy interview on “The Howard Stern Show” on Monday, Academy president Tom Sherak accepted his resignation by phone Tuesday morning.

In an open letter, Ratner said he “apologizes publicly and unreservedly.”

“I should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words do matter,” Ratner said. “Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted.”

The Academy issued a statement Tuesday that included a quote from Sherak, who did a 180-degree shift in tone from his let’s-move-on comments Monday.

“He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself,” Sherak said in the statement. “Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent.” Variety

On a more serious note, really? Ratner obviously meant f*g as in stupid or lame. He wasn’t attempting to be derogatory. Sure, he should be smart enough to not use the word but it’s not like he was pointing at a gay man, making his wrist go limp and lisping, “Rehearthal’s for f*gth. He knowth what I’m talkin’ about.”

Brett Ratner is on a roll this week. He’s apologized for saying he banged Olivia Munn and for calling rehearsals faggy but he’s yet to apologize for revealing to Howard Stern that he made Lindsay Lohan get tested for STDs before he slept with her back in 2006. Brett Ratner has been making waves ever since he claimed to have banged Olivia Munn back when she was named Lisa and before she became Asian while denying masturbating with shrimp oil in front of her.

He’s back this week with more headline grabbing statements This time during a Q&A after screening his film Tower Heist at the Arclight in LA. A moderator asked Brett whether he prepares and rehearses with his actors before shooting a scene.

In typical Brett Ratner fashion, “Ratner waved his hand dismissively and said, ‘Rehearsal is for fags.’” Well, that’s painfully obvious in most of his movies. Cohesiveness and story must also be for fags too.

Rehearsal? What’s that? Rehearsal’s for fags. Rehearsal. Not much. A lot of prep, preparation, complex action sequences, visual effects. Storyboards, animatics. The process was I made the actors stick to the script. And they wanted to, because the script was great.

A person who was there said the audience was stunned and at least one person even walked out upset over the reference. I totally understand that if he was gay. Not only did he have to sit through Tower Heist but then Brett had to come out and salt the wounds.

Ratner has since apologized for using a gay slur. In an exclusive statement to TheWrap, Ratner said,

“I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb way of expressing myself. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.” TheWrap

Brett Ratner admitted on Thursday that that bigwig director was him but he never masturbated using shrimp juice as lube. Also, Olivia didn’t used to be Asian and she used to be called Lisa.

Everyone’s suffering on set after Lindsay Lohan checked herself into rehab.

She’s been “moody and is making everyone miserable around her. She’ll be late and sometimes won’t come out of her trailer.” Lohan is being trailed by a “sober coach” as well as an entourage.

Meanwhile Paris Hilton has been showing up late and not memorizing lines for her new movie The Hottie and the Nottie.

The last time I remember seeing Chris Tucker was in Rush Hour 2. A quick search on IMDB reveals that’s also the last time anybody else has seen him. That was six years ago. I suppose there’s not a big demand in Hollywood for the stereotypical funny intense black man. I use the word “funny” very loosely. Like Paris Hilton loose.
