Everyone reported yesterday that Michael Caine, while shooting in New Orleans, took a nap in a dressing room and was inadvertently locked in. Turns out it’s not true.

“Just read another story about me being locked in attick [sic], completely false,” Caine tweeted Thursday.

A few hours later, he added, “Everyone who has published this story has been tricked. Its completely untrue.” NYDN

First of all, Michael Caine has a Twitter? Second of all, the reason everyone believed this story is because Michael Caine is old and old people just randomly fall asleep wherever. They could have said Michael Caine fell asleep on a toilet and people would still have believed it. In fact, the most likely reaction to that would be, “Aww, old people are so cute.”

Michael Caine, 79, was filming Now You See Me in an old theater when, after a long day of filming, he decided to head upstairs to a makeshift dressing room to take a nap. Old people, amirite?

“It had been a long day of filming and Michael decided to slip upstairs to a makeshift dressing area and catch 40 winks.

“When Michael eventually woke up, he realised he was locked in. His mobile phone was in his trailer and there was no electricity in the attic, meaning he couldn’t see a thing. It was pitch black.

“Michael started shouting for help but no one could hear him. It was only when an on-set carpenter who had left his tools in the theatre went to do some maintenance work the following morning that he was discovered. It’s fair to say Michael wasn’t in the best of moods – although he was grateful to have been found.” Guardian

Thank god it wasn’t a closet or else Michael would be turning it into a 200 chapter hip-hop opera like R. Kelly. Though, admittedly, that would be kind of cool.

Inception is the movie of the year so far with The Social Network being a close second. So it’s no wonder people are still talking about the ambiguous ending weeks after its release. Not Michael Caine, however. Ambiguity has no place in his heart. He slays ambiguity like a hooker using too much teeth. In a recent interview with BBC Radio, Caine gives his own explanation of the ending.

Caine says, “it’s real, because I’m never in the dream.” There you go. It’s settled. Take it from Michael Caine. He was in the movie. Plus, it’ll be easier than re-watching the entire movie to see if DiCaprio’s ring is his real totem. Or maybe we’ve just been incepted. Damn you, Michael Caine! [AICN via AV Club]

Soon after the release of The Dark Knight rumors began spreading that execs were looking at Johnny Depp for The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Penguin. Possibly because people watched Depp play Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and thought, “Hey, Willy Wonka is kind of like The Riddler. So, if Depp can dial down the pedophilic undertones, he’d be perfect. Also, Philip Seymour Hoffman is portly and inadvertently comical, just like The Penguin!”

Depp quickly shot down the rumor saying that he hasn’t been asked. But yesterday, Michael Caine might have confirmed it to MTV at the Toronto Film Festival.

“When Christopher [Nolan] said we were going to do ‘The Dark Knight’ next, I didn’t what that meant in Batman terms,” related Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. “I said, ‘What’s the story?’ and he said The Joker. I said, ‘Oh, s–t! How are you going to top Jack [Nicholson]?’ He said, ‘Well, I’ve cast Heath Ledger. And I went ‘Ha! I couldn’t top Jack, but if anyone could, maybe Heath could.’ And he did.

“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs]

There you have it. According to Michael Caine through an unmaed Warner Bros. exec, Johnny Depp might be The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman might be The Penguin despite no confirmation from Christopher Nolan who will actually be the one writing and directing the next installment. So… we’re pretty much back to where we started. Fabulous!
