UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie

UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie

A somewhat mixed bag of fights on this card. Some interesting, some boring. If you don’t want the results, ignore this post.

Matt Hughes defeats Royce Gracie by TKO (Strikes) at 4:39 in RD 1
Brandon Vera defeats Assuerio Silva by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:39 in RD 1
Mike Swick defeats Joe Riggs by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:19 in RD 1
Diego Sanchez defeats John Alessio by Decision (Unanimous) at 5:00 in RD 3
Melvin Guillard defeats Rick Davis by KO (Punch) at 1:37 in RD 1
Dean Lister defeats Alessio Sakara by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 2:20 in RD 1
Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Fabiano Scherner by TKO (Strikes) at 0:24 in RD 2
Jeremy Horn defeats Chael Sonnen by Submission (Armbar) at 1:17 in RD 2
Spencer Fisher defeats Matt Wiman by KO (Knee) at 1:43 in RD 2

Dean Lister debuted strong showing his grappling game which was awesome. I fell asleep for a while during the Sanchez Alessio fight, but woke up to see Alessio defending the rear naked choke all while walking around with Sanchez on his back.

As predicted for the main event, Hughes dominated Gracie. Gracie was almost submitted with a kimura, but showed no pain and got out. That didn’t help much when Hughes got his back and pounded him till the ref stopped it.

This should probably be a wake-up call to Gracie. MMA has evolved to a point where he needs to adapt or just retire and teach.
