The stingray attack that speared and killed Irwin was actually caught on video.
“It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here (in the chest),” Stainton said after watching the footage.
“He pulled it out and the next minute he’s gone. The cameraman had to shut down,” he said.
The stingray is described as a bull stingray weighing 220lbs with a strong serrated barb. The pulling out of the chest is said to be what killed Irwin. There’s no news on whether or not they’re going to show the footage, but the likely decision is probably not.
