Celebs on Heath Ledger

Heath’s mother wants everyone to know Heath would never have committed suicide and she’s probably right as it’s been confirmed he was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his death. Meanwhile, Michelle Williams is obviously devastated.

“He was absolutely in love with his daughter,” says another source. “And he really liked what he did [acting]. He spoiled [Matilda] rotten. He was playful and very funny with her.”

The source adds: “I can’t believe Matilda is going to grow up without a dad, without knowing her father. And that Michelle will have to deal with having a daughter who’s lost her father. She’s a survivor. She’ll make it, but it’s going to be hard. Her first concern is going to be Matilda.”

Following his untimely death, a number of actors and studios are paying tribute to Heath Ledger; a sampling of which can be found below.

Mel Gibson: “I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”

Nicole Kidman: “What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family.”

Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia: “It was with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Heath Ledger. It is tragic that we have lost one of our nation’s finest actors in the prime of his life. Heath Ledger’s diverse and challenging roles will be remembered as some of the great performances by an Australian actor.”

James Schamus, Focus Features, producers of Brokeback Mountain: “Heath Ledger was a courageous actor, and a great soul. He gave us the gift of sharing his fearless and beautiful love — of his craft, and of all who worked with him — for which all of us will be eternally grateful.”

Warner Bros., producers of The Dark Knight: “The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

John Travolta: “His abilities are rare…it’s a tremendous loss. It’s hard to be here celebrating Australia under these circumstances.”

Lindsay Lohan, rumored to have hooked up with Ledger numerous times: Well, she just sort of slumped in her car and bawled.

Heath’s passing is very much reminiscent of Bruce Lee’s son, Brandon Lee’s, death in 1993. Both were 28-years-old, both were in the prime of their careers, both suffered accidental deaths and both were destined for greater things. Brandon Lee’s final film, The Crow, became a cult favorite after his death while Heath’s final film, The Dark Knight, seems destined to be the same, but on a much grander scale.

Above is one of the final pictures of Heath Ledger filming Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

i don’t trust it, hollywood has a very sinister side. and they want you to be a tad obedient and sick in the head. i remember when i had gotten involved in the resolve of apartheid, then warnerbros put me in the movie “lean on me.” and was in the music video “all the man i need” then this girl got herself pregnant and i sarcastically admitted to it, after that i was dragged through chancery court. during that time i made some new friends. they’d come by, and we’d spend the day talking suicide. good thing i was full… Read more »
