Charlize Theron was out promoting In The Valley of Elah in the UK when she mixed up her European capitals. The actress kept talking about her visit to the Turkish city of Budapest. The Turkish carpets she bought in Budapest, the Turkish bazaar she visited in Budapest and the attention she received in Budapest. The only problem is Budapest is in Hungary. She meant to say Istanbul which is where she and her husband “backpacked”.
“We went to Turkey. When we got over there, we rented a car and we drove all the way to Budapest. By the time we got to Budapest it was like the Cannes Film Festival, I’d never seen anything like it.”
Little did she know she ended up in the middle of the Istanbul International Film Festival which could explain the throngs of people. But, I forgive her because my grasp of geography was not what it used to be either. One time I tried driving to Santa Barbara and ended up in Arizona. God, who knew Arizona was in Oregon. That was awkward. Particularly when I started speaking broken Spanish. Helpful hint: That’s not Oregon’s national language and they aren’t best known for whoring out their hot sisters.
