Joaquin Phoenix might have been drunk

One prevailing theory as to why Joaquin Phoenix publicly announced his retirement from acting at the tribute to Paul Newman last week was because of drugs and alcohol. One attendee speculated that Joaquin was out of it, but that’s already been made obvious by the video. A source tells Page Six:

Other actors were performing scenes and readings, but Phoenix just got up and walked out. “He wobbled back in a bit later, but it was odd,” said our source. “He was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet.”

Some people are still adamant that he was joking, but talking to the AP, Joaquin had this to say:

“I think it’s just moving on. It’s rediscovering something else,” said Phoenix, 34, in an interview published by news agency Associated Press.

“It’s like greener pastures, you know what I mean? And so, I’m just going to try and like, I’ll just be doing the other thing. Hopefully, I will emotionally impact you with that, as well.”

Putting the final nail in the coffin, Joaquin showed up at the LA premiere of Che with “Bye! Good” written on his knuckles. The picture would have been cooler if he wasn’t dyslexic. It’s like that time I was talking to this girl and said “cake penis” instead of “penis cake”. So embarrassing.
