A few years ago, Gwyneth Paltrow commented that compared to Americans, the British were much more civilized and intelligent. She then backpeddled by saying America is great while waving the flag and shooting into air while yelling, “America. F**k yeah!”
Paltrow is at it again, but since she’s in Spain this time, Americans have the honor of being compared to them.
“It is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible,” she said.
“Also, the way people live over there. They seem to enjoy life a little bit more. They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family. They don’t always have their Blackberries on.”
Not as harsh as her previous comments and she’s only comparing New Yorkers to the Spanish, but still. Take exception to that because Americans know how enjoy life just fine. Once they download that Blackberry/iPhone app that tells them how, they’ll show that Paltrow bitch. Mark their words.
I agree with her.
I hate to break it to people, but she’s right. Western Europe is in general way more relaxed than America. I love America, but I’m not in love with its superiority complex. Why do people go crazy anytime a celebrity says that they like another country more? If I had the money, I’d be living in Switzerland right now!
She is right!! In North America we have been force fed some indoctrine that makes us live to work, where as in Europe it is more of a work to live philosophy. In Europe they work 32 hr work weeks and get 8 weeks vacation a year on average. Compare that to America’s 40-44 hr work week and 2 week vacations.
32 hours a week? In what fantasy are you living? A 40hour workweek is no more natural in the US then it is in Europe.
I agree with Gwyneth as well. When I was stationed in Italy a few years ago I discovered that Americans place more value on working and increasing personal wealth, all at the expense of health and relationships.
For Europeans, family comes first and work comes fifth. Dental care could use some work, but hey, who’s perfect?!
I’m not a big fan of Gweneth…
but she is right on!!!
to the creator of drunken stepfather or to whoever is making comments on this site, you are such a rascist asshole that you always insult the rest of the world and make fun of them because of being poor, now when somebody like paltrow make some negative comments about some americans (which is true) you get mad and feel so bad, boo-hoo… grow up!
Gwyneth has yet to learn diplomacy. It’s possible to make appreciative comments about a culture WITHOUT uttering blanket negative statements about another. She never learns. The simple adage, THINK before you speak, should be tattooed somewhere on her person.
Look here: Paltrow is ignorant and also probably a hypocrite. “An old building in the USA is 17 years old”? Where is this? Las Vegas? What about the Taos Pueblo? The Palace Of Governors? St. Luke’s Church? There are many “old” buildings in the USA that are hundreds of years old, Ms. Paltrow. And just because a country has old buildings doesn’t mean that country is great. What about the “old buildings” located throughout the middle east? Wow. Saudi Arabia is a wonderful country because of their old buildings! Too bad about the stoning women for adultery thing… too bad… Read more »
