Conan O’Brien may have just been fired

Reports are coming in that NBC is moving Jay Leno back to his 11:30 time slot and moving Conan O’Brien to 12 or firing him. TMZ says:

We’ve learned Jay’s 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided — whether Jay’s show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay’s show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O’Brien.

We’re told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he’ll get what he always wanted — his 11:30 PM time slot.

Jay Leno was set to retire and Conan was to take over his show, but NBC screwed Conan over and gave Leno a new show at 10. Now that Leno couldn’t pull in any numbers, they’re moving Leno back to his old time slot hoping to get back the ratings they once had. They’re then either moving O’Brien back to the midnight wasteland or firing him. Conan’s like the ugly stepsister who keeps getting dicked around. At the NBC meetings, they probably shove Conan’s face in a bowl of wet dog food and all Conan can do is ask, “Thank you sir, may I have another?” You could punch Conan in the balls for the next 24 hours and it still wouldn’t be as bad as what NBC is doing to him.

Funny how many errors are in this story. Conan signed a contract back in 2004-2005 to take over the Tonight Show. In 2009 Jay was to retired (forced retirement by NBC) but was enticed by offers to move to ABC to replace Jimmy Kimball. To prevent Jay from going to ABC and competing directly at the same time with Conan, they offered Jay a show at 10 (and offered him twice the money that Conan currently makes) Though Jay’s ratings are down (since he is competing against Drama Shows on ABC and CBS), so are Conans. Jay left the Tonight… Read more »

Actually Conan got screwed over a lot more then Jay. Because when Jay Leno first took over the show after Johny Carson (which he stole from David Lettermen) Jay didn’t get first place until about a year after he started. And then when Jay Leno was told that he would be forced to give the tonight show to Conan, he decided to run an absolutley terrible show before Conan so that Conan wouldn’t get as many ratings. Because in order to have a succesful talk show you must have a good lead in show. When Jay was head of the… Read more »

AGREED! NBC was warned by thousands of Tonight Show viewers this would happen. The show was a icon, viewers of all ages tuned in for 50 years. O’brien fell flat on his face. The ratings dropped by 40 percent. His frat boy comedy didnt cut it. I say good riddance.
