Katy Perry Takes Aim at Britney’s Lucrative Product Placement

A fan asked Katy Perry about product placement in music videos on Friday, coincidentally on the same day Britney Spears released music video for ‘Hold It Against Me’.

“What is consensus on product placement in videos? As a fan, do you prefer product placement if it means bigger budget vid?” Katy responded, “do it w/style & grace…Not so in ur face like some. U hv to get creative w/it. Some artists don’t care tho, & u can tell.”

Many took this at a jab at Britney who had product placements for Sony and the dating website Plenty of Fish which earned her $500,000 from advertisers. However,  it could have also been directed at Avril Lavigne who also had egregious product placement in her video. Or it could have been just her being critical of Sony, who owns both the labels they’re on. The point is no one really knows but hopefully this turns into a three-way cat fight because that would be hot.

Side note: On the advertising side of things, the ad worked as Plentyoffish.com saw a 20% spike in traffic.

Here’s Katy Perry wishing Rihanna a happy birthday by covering her song ‘Only Girl in the World’.

Lady Gaga also advertised Plenty of Fish in her ‘Telephone’ video. Advertising is EVERYWHERE…but this is what the monetary system perpetuates. I didn’t see Katy Perry “taking Aim” at Spears, just responding to the question.
