Homeless man Jeffrey Hillman made the news last week when an off duty NYPD officer bought him a new pair of boots to wear after noticing he had no shoes. The resulting Facebook photo went viral.
The New York Times caught up with Hillman and spoke with him. They found out he’s still homeless (not a surprise) but he’s also still barefoot because he says the shoes are too expensive to wear. He’s hidden them because “I could lose my life.”
Hillman is also a little perturbed by all the attention his story has gotten saying he wants a piece of the pie. “I was put on YouTube, I was put on everything without permission. What do I get?” he said. “This went around the world, and I want a piece of the pie.”
I assume he didn’t mean a literal piece of pie unless he did in which cause the NYT should have helped him out with that.
