Tennis star Maria Sharapova will be temporarily changing her name to Maria Sugarpova for next week’s US Open in New York in order to promote her candy brand she launched last year.
Sharapova has asked Florida authorities about the name change and, if allowed, will go by Sugarpova for the entire two-week tournament and then go back to Sharapova when it’s finished.
That’s some excellent corporate whoring. She should also line her pockets with candy and whenever she wins a set, throw it into the crowd like a sugar fairy while shouting “Diabetes for you, diabetes for you, diabetes for EVERYONE!”
