Before final casting decisions were made for 50 Shades of Grey, Chloe Bridges was one of the people asked to audition for the movie. The Carrie Diaries actress had to eventually bow out because the script got too graphic for her. She tells Cosmo,
“There were three pages of sides that I was going to audition with,” she said. “I read them and then was like, I really can’t do this.”
What put her off was the description of some “sexcapade” the character had where there were a lot of detail involving sperm. I’ve never read the book so I assume it was a description about how she choked on a wad some guy shot in her mouth. Or maybe I’m just projecting.
Bridges was hesitant to reveal too much about the script but, “The scene was, like, the girl telling her friends about some sexcapade she had,” she said. “But it goes into extreme detail and uses the word ‘sperm’ a couple times. I was like, I don’t know guys, I have to go home to my grandparent’s house in a few months at Christmas, I don’t know if I can do this.”
Grandparents. They always ruin the fun.
And the word “sperm” wasn’t meant in a medical context — it was used “in a very sexual way,” Bridges explained. “It was intense. So mad props to the people who are going to do it. You had to be able to take it seriously and not laugh or turn bright red.”
Well, I’m glad sperm wasn’t used in the medical sense because that would mean she was auditioning for the wrong part. And hopefully the audition wasn’t just her reading lines while sitting on a couch in front of a white wall while a slightly overweight man filmed her with a handheld camera.
But that’s not to say Bridges is anti-sex scene. “I feel like I would have less problem being nude than I would being graphic. Does that make sense?” Sure it does.
Wait, so what she’s saying is she would do nudity? Game changer.
