Last night, David Letterman, 67 this month, announced that he’ll be retiring from The Late Show in 2015. Brian Stelter of CNN already reported the news but it was on his show that he made the formal announcement. He received a standing ovation afterward.

Letterman began his talk show host duties in 1982 on NBC and moved to CBS in 1993. His replacement has yet to be announced but Craig Ferguson seems the most likely candidate.
