Gary Oldman Defends Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin

Gary Oldman just had to go and open his mouth. In a new interview with Playboy, Oldman says people should get over Mel Gibson’s racist rants explaining, “I think political correctness is crap.”

I just think political correctness is crap. That’s what I think about it. I think it’s like, take a fucking joke. Get over it. I heard about a science teacher who was teaching that God made the earth and God made everything and that if you believe anything else you’re stupid. A Buddhist kid in the class got very upset about this, so the parents went in and are suing the school! The school is changing its curriculum! I thought, All right, go to the school and complain about it and then that’s the end of it. But they’re going to sue! No one can take a joke anymore.

I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all fucking hypocrites. That’s what I think about it. The policeman who arrested him has never used the word n****r or that fucking Jew? I’m being brutally honest here. It’s the hypocrisy of it that drives me crazy. Or maybe I should strike that and say “the N word” and “the F word,” though there are two F words now.

There’s actually a high probability that that policeman has never used those words but people like Oldman tend to think this way. Oldman then goes on to defend Alec Baldwin.

Alec calling someone an F-A-G in the street while he’s pissed off coming out of his building because they won’t leave him alone. I don’t blame him. So they persecute. Mel Gibson is in a town that’s run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him—and doesn’t need to feed him anymore because he’s got enough dough. He’s like an outcast, a leper, you know? But some Jewish guy in his office somewhere hasn’t turned and said, “That fucking kraut” or “F**k those Germans,” whatever it is? We all hide and try to be so politically correct. That’s what gets me. It’s just the sheer hypocrisy of everyone, that we all stand on this thing going, “Isn’t that shocking?” [smiles wryly] All right. Shall I stop talking now? What else can we discuss?

This might come as a shock but, yes, there are people who actually have never said, “That fucking kraut” or “F**k those Germans.”

Oh, f**k the pope! [laughs and puts head in hands] So this interview has gone very badly. You have to edit and cut half of what I’ve said, because it’s going to make me sound like a bigot.

Fateful turn is putting it mildy.

Well, if I called Nancy Pelosi a cunt—and I’ll go one better, a fucking useless cunt—I can’t really say that. But Bill Maher and Jon Stewart can, and nobody’s going to stop them from working because of it. Bill Maher could call someone a f*g and get away with it. He said to Seth MacFarlane this year, “I thought you were going to do the Oscars again. Instead they got a lesbian.” He can say something like that. Is that more or less offensive than Alec Baldwin saying to someone in the street, “You f*g”? I don’t get it.

Gary Oldman may have overlooked some nuances.

It’s our culture now, absolutely. At the Oscars, if you didn’t vote for 12 Years a Slaveyou were a racist. You have to be very careful about what you say. I do have particular views and opinions that most of this town doesn’t share, but it’s not like I’m a fascist or a racist. There’s nothing like that in my history.

It’s true. He’s not a fascist or a racist. I hear Gary Oldman has a lot of gay black Jewish friends.

If you think there is “a high probability that that policeman has never used those words”, then you don’t know many cops.

So in line with his thoughts about political correctness and the like, shall I be the first to call Mr. Oldman a moron?!

I’ll rephrase it as “a higher probability than Gary Oldman thinks there is.” Doesn’t mean Oldman’s wrong.

It’s not what you say in life it is what you do. Words are just words. And yes, most cops are rascist no doubt about it.

If I call someone an ass**** does that mean I am a rascist if the guy I called that name IS an ass****?

In today’s society you’re racist if you’re white and the ass**** isn’t.

And here I thought that the First Amendment applied to all, not just those you agreed with. Silly me.

That’s the problem Bob most of the people talk about the First Amendment but almost nobody takes the time to read it and find out what’s really about :)

The writer of this article has no perspective and makes outlandish reponses to argue against what Oldman said. It is what is wrong with the country. They want us to all be pacifist. Thats why tbe country is going to hell

positive here. You bet your ass they still hate ‘zee Germans’ look at inglorious basterds? Better yet, why not look at any program or movie etc anywhere. How well are minorities addressed , if & when they’re acknowledged? How much of this were all one message do you see in action? F**k were never going to get anywhere pretending Real isn’t real. Deal with reality & truth today – & remember freedom was ‘hated’ speech once too…apparently some things never change.

Yeah, Victor, I think more people would rather have beers with Oldman, Gibson, or Baldwin before they would with you. Simply because the impression I get from your snarky little article flaming an Oldman interview is that you are a uppity bitch and a liar. I know gays/women/POCs who have said the same thing Oldman has on a daily basis. Don’t make the rest of us lie and agree with you.

This is sort of a “grown up” site. If you put your examples of “vile, hate speech” in quotation marks, chances are the moderator won’t delete them and whack your pee pee. Usually.

Gary Oldman is just saying what everyone who lives in this world without blinders on can see. Historically we’ve all been enslaved or murdered in droves just some people get to be more sensitive about it in the sociopolitical arena. But to try to say a cop never uses stereotypically charged racial slurs is just naive, not idealism. What’s at foot is a lack of privacy as well. The leaks are handpicked. If you think not- you’re either in denial or in on it.look at the work they put out. You bet your ass they still hate ‘zee Germans’ look… Read more »
