Troy Dickerson’s wife was going into labor so like any expectant father, he got his bags ready, put her in the car, strapped a GoPro to his head and rushed to the hospital. Except, the hospital was kind of far and a baby waits for no one.
Kristin told her husband to stop at any hospital, but Troy, being the one NOT giving birth, didn’t feel the same urgency and believed they’d still make it to the Women’s Pavilion at Texas Children’s Hospital. Reality set in as they got to the hospital and the baby started crowning.
“She had gotten out of the car and she had just froze, like stood there. And me and the valet guy were like, ‘Sit down! Sit down in the wheelchair!'” said Troy.
“That’s who I feel the worst for, the valet guy. Because he was saying, ‘Ma’am, ma’am, sit in the wheelchair!’ And I’m like, ‘No! No!'” said Kristin.
Kristin ended up giving birth standing up outside the car. Like a boss.
“I said, ‘On the next contraction, push.’ And on the next contraction, she pushed and he came flying out,” said Troy.
The baby boy, named Truett, was born at 2:05 a.m. on June 28.
Coincidentally, Kristin is a childbirth educator at the hospital who teaches about emergency births to her students so she wasn’t totally unprepared when the baby shot out of her.
The funniest part was all the doctors trying not to step in the afterbirth. That stuff will NOT wash out.
