While Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally were married, they planned to have a kid via surrogate. However, things turned sour when Sherri believed Lamar only wanted a baby with her so he could get child support. Now she’s saying she doesn’t want the baby anymore because she doesn’t want to pay for it. The baby is due this month. Sources tell TMZ that the baby was made with Lamar’s sperm but not Sherri’s egg. That may give her some legal ground. If it wasn’t for the fact they both signed a contract with the surrogate, that is.
For her part, Sherri doesn’t want custody or to be considered a parent because she doesn’t want to be stuck with child support. Sherri wants the judge to waive all responsibility to the kid as she believes Lamar defrauded her. She alleges Lamar convinced her to have a surrogate baby knowing that he was going to divorce her and would hit her up for child support. But wait, plot twist.
Sherri has filed for divorce in New Jersey and Lamar has filed in California. This is not a coincidence. We did some digging, and found New Jersey courts generally do NOT recognize surrogacy agreements, which means Lamar would probably be shut down. Not so in Cali.
Before you condemn the very Christian Sherri Shepherd as an awful person who treats unborn children like microwave ovens from Sears, realize this. Some of Sherri Shepherd’s best friends are children.
