British actor Richard Attenborough, brother of wildlife narrator David Attenborough, passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday.
Lord Attenborough had been in a nursing home with his wife for a number of years, BBC arts editor Will Gompertz said. He had also been in a wheelchair since falling down stairs six years ago, our correspondent added.
His son told the BBC that Lord Attenborough died at lunchtime on Sunday.
Richard was best known for making dinosaurs come to life in Jurassic Park. Maybe you’ll also remember him as Santa Claus in the remake of Miracle of 34th Street. Besides that, he was also one of England’s leading actors, directors and producers starring in The Great Escape with Steven McQueen and directing Gandhi, which won him two Oscars.
His acting in "Brighton Rock" was brilliant, his directing of "Gandhi" was stunning – Richard Attenborough was one of the greats of cinema.

Richard Attenborough was the kindest man I have ever had the privilege of working with. A Prince. RIP 'Pa' – and thank you
