Jessica Chastain Will Not Be Your Captain Marvel

Superhero rumors started flying when Jessica Chastain spoke to MTV about being in talks with Marvel for future roles.

When Chastain stopped by MTV today (November 3) she openly discussed the tantalizing possibilities. Once rumored to be up for a role in “Iron Man 3,” Chastain confirmed she’s talked to Marvel about other roles. “We’ve talked about aligning our forces in the future,” Chastain said. “And here’s the thing with me… If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?” “Whatever it is, I want a fight scene,” Chastain continued. “I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass.”

Which lead to the money quote that everyone thought was a hint about Chastain being asked to play Captain Marvel.

“I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming…,” Chastain hinted. “And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.”

Nerd boner, engage! But not so fast. Chastain shot down the rumor on Twitter saying it was from a different film from a while ago.

Nerd boner… disengage.

I think you need to reinterpret the Tweet. She’s saying that Marvel talked to her for a different role since IM3, but she subsequently turned that role down as well because she wanted her character to bust out of the gate as a superhero. Just because she said she never had talks about Captain Marvel doesn’t mean she won’t.
